'Sharing in Yolo's Bounty' | Community gives thanks during interfaith service at Yolo Food Bank

The first ever county wide multi-faith non-denominational service was held at the Yolo Food Bank on Sunday.

WOODLAND, Calif. — More than 100 people joined at the Yolo Food Bank for "Sharing in Yolo's Bounty," an interfaith service which invited members of the Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Sikh and all other faith communities to come together in celebration.

Those who attended joined together in non-denominational prayer, song, and shared words of hope, encouragement and thanks for the Yolo County community.

“Today we really wanted to share the commonalities of food and gratitude… With the community,” said Joy Cohan, with the Yolo Food Bank.

The Yolo Food Bank serves more than 50,000 people per month at its more than 40,000 square food warehouse and several other sites around the county. The organization wanted to be a part of bringing the community together this thanksgiving holiday season.

“To share a little bit about one another's backgrounds and traditions around thanksgiving is a really meaningful way and inspiring way to get the holiday started,” Cohan said.

Organizers hope events like “Sharing in Yolo’s Bounty” will open the door up to more collaborative events. Rabbi Greg Wolfe of the congregation Bet Haverim Synagogue also attended the event.

“I’m here to be a part of this wonderful first time celebration bringing all of our community in Yolo County together,” Wolfe said. “To really give thanks and to really appreciate the sense of community that we have and of course support this wonderful organization.”

The evening ended with a potluck of pies and cider. Organizers hope to continue the tradition in future years.
