David Wolpert, 35, was arrested for what police say is attempted possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

On Saturday, Sacramento police had arrived to an apartment on the 5900 block of 15th avenue, near 58th Street, for a welfare check on Wolpert.

Arriving officers contacted him, noting that he was home alone and the only resident of the apartment. As officers spoke with him, they saw materials, chemicals, and equipment in the apartment that are used in making explosives.

SPD’s Explosive Ordnance Detail eventually took over the investigation with fire personnel and other law enforcement, and neighbors were evacuated as a precaution due to the potentially dangerous materials, chemicals, and equipment in the apartment.
