Sacramento man convicted of sexual assault, false imprisonment

Amit Bharth threatened the woman, saying he'd hurt her if she told anyone what he did to her, according to the Sacramento District Attorney's office.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man faces up to 20 years in prison after being convicted for rape, assault, and kidnapping.

A jury convicted 42-year-old Amit Bharth of two counts of rape and assault that likely caused a bodily injury and of false imprisonment by force and violence, according to a press release from the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.

The press release noted how, after being separated from a friend, the victim met Bharth outside of a grocery store in Sacramento in January 2017. He then brought her to various motels where he assaulted and raped her for a week.

Bharth then physically threatened her if she told anyone what he did, according to the press release.
