MODESTO, California — Looking for something fun and free to do this weekend? Then look no further than "May the Fourth Be With You Day" in Downtown Modesto, on Saturday, May 4, at the 10th Street Plaza.
"On May the 4th, just say it, 'May the Fourth, Force be with you.' So it's a pun on May the 4th, which George Lucas, from Modesto, made famous back in 1977," said Middagh Goodwin with Modestoview Magazine.
Modestoview Magazine organizes the event. Ironically, it's the fourth year the magazine is putting it on. The day pays homage to one of Modesto's favorite sons, George Lucas, Star Wars creator.
"At 4:30 PM is the big pinata smash, the Death Star. Then, we're going to have Beyer High band play. Once it gets dark, we the Jedi Lodge Pole Pickers play," said Modestoview Magazine Publisher, Chris Murphy.
In 2016, the Modesto City Council made an official proclamation making May the Fourth Star Wars Day.
Here is the schedule of events (Times subject to change):
- 4:15 p.m. - Death Star Piñata
- 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. - Beyer High School Band performs songs from Star Wars
- 6 p.m. - Star Wars Costume Parade
