Missed registration deadline? Don't worry, you can still vote

According to the California Secretary of State, those eligible to vote that missed the May 21 registration deadline can still register up until election day.

We understand. You’re busy. Voter registration is just one of those things that easily slip through the cracks.

The State of California understands as well, which is why it offers ‘conditional voter registration,’ AKA same day voter registration.

The reason it’s conditional is that the ballot is only cast if the county elections officer verifies that the eligible voter is who he or she claims to be.

According to the California Secretary of State, those eligible to vote that missed the May 21 registration deadline can still register up until election day.

“While you may not be able to vote at your regular polling place or vote by mail, there is still an opportunity to cast a ballot by completing the conditional voter registration process,” according to the Secretary of State website.

Californians who missed the deadline can go to a county elections office or satellite location, which can be found here, to register and vote conditionally.

California started to allow conditional registration in 2017, after a long-awaited statewide voter database was officially certified for use, according to an L.A. Times article.
