Wet, cold, and windy conditions expected in Sacramento to kick off new year

The rain is likely to stick around for the next several days.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — On Saturday evening, Sacramento Kings fans braved chilly and blustery conditions to attend the game against the Golden State Warriors.

Even though the Kings lost, for many, it was still worth the trip.

“It’s a little wet, it’s not to bad, “ Michael Marier said. “The winds picking up pretty good. So, it’s cold.”

Marier brought his son, nephew, and father-in-law out to the game. Raman Kaur traveled from the Bay Area to attend her first basketball game.

“It’s because of my son, I’m not a very sports person, so I’m very excited,” Kaur said.

Kaur’s son is with the Bhangra Empire Rising Stars Dance Team and was performing for the Kings' “Bollywood Night.”

Kaur waited in front of the arena, about an hour before game time, in the wet weather, to see her son perform.

“Good to see the game, excited to see my son perform,” Kaur said.

The weather also caused the Global Winter Wonderland to close early on Saturday. Global Winter Wonderland will re-open for its last day of the season on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019.

The Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink also closed over the weekend due to the weather.

Unfortunately, due to rain, we are closed today, Jan. 6 ☔️

Traffic was slowed to a crawl in the Sierra as snow hits the mountains. Regularly scheduled work on the Tower Bridge was canceled because of the weather, according to Yolo County officials.
