16-year-old goalkeeper signed to Sacramento's minor league soccer team

Sacramento Republic FC's newest signee, Diego Ramos, will be eligible for the club's Saturday league match against the Rio Grande Valley Toros FC.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Diego Ramos, a 16-year-old goal keeper, has been announced as the fifth signee  this season for Sacramento Republic FC.

“Diego has made great strides in a short time in our academy and has emerged as a top goalkeeping prospect,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant in a statement. “We look forward to big things ahead for Diego.”

Ramos was signed to a USL Academy contract, which allows players to play in professional matches with the first team and maintain NCAA eligibility by preserving amateur status. He'll be eligible for selection for Republic FC's match against the Rio Grade Valley Toros FC on July 20.

Ramos was recently featured for Republic FC in an international friendly against Club America U-20 on Tuesday. He helped maintain a 2-0 shutout for a Republic FC win.

Republic FC's league campaign continues into July 20 with a game in Texas against Toros FC. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m. PT.
