Sacramento State head coach Jody Sears gets multi-year extension

Jody Sears will remain as Sacramento State's head football coach after they agreed in principle to a multi-year contract extension, announced Athletic Director Mark Orr.

Jody Sears will remain as Sacramento State's head football coach after agreeing in principle to a multi-year contract extension, announced Thursday by Athletic Director Mark Orr.

The terms of the contract have yet to be released, but the deal is being finalized.

During the 2017 campaign, Sears led Sacramento State to a 7-4 (6-2 Big Sky Conference) record and the six conference wins were the most since joining the Big Sky in 1996. Sears was also named Big Sky Co-Coach of the Year last week, collecting a school record seven wins over Division 1 teams.

"I've said throughout the year that there is no place my family and I would rather be than at Sacramento State and I'm happy to be able to continue as the head coach," said Sears in a press release. "I want to thank President Nelsen and Mark Orr for their support and believing in what we are trying to do. I look forward to continue working with this staff and the great young men on our team."

Sears has been at the university since spring 2014 when he started as the defensive coordinator and was eventually named interim head coach, leading the team to a 7-5 record. The following season he was named the head coach.
