Former Sacramento Kings and UCLA player Tyler Honeycutt has died following a shootout with the Los Angeles Police Department Friday night.
Police responded to the scene after Honeycutt's mother reportedly called saying he was "acting erratically." When they arrived, he allegedly opened fired on police, who returned fired.
Honeycutt then barricaded himself inside a Sherman Oaks residence. SWAT eventually entered the residence and found him unresponsive. The fire department pronounced him dead at scene.
Family members confirmed Honeycutt's death on Saturday, according to KABC.
Honeycutt played for UCLA for two years (2009-2011) and was a second round draft pick by Sacramento in the 2011 NBA Draft. He played in just 24 games over two seasons before relocating to play overseas.
