Peja Stojakovic had more to offer the Kings after his eight seasons as a player in Sacramento, which included three All-Star appearances.

Stojakovic, 40, was promoted to be the team’s Assistant General Manager on Wednesday, joining Ken Catanella and Brandon Williams, who both serve the organization in the same capacity.

Stojakovic has already served a few roles within the Kings’ front office since returning to the franchise back in the summer of 2015. He has served as the director of player personnel and development, as well as General Manager of the G-League affiliate for a season, which used to reside in Reno.

Over the past two seasons, Stojakovic served as the Kings VP of Basketball and Player Development.

“I am thrilled to announce that Peja will serve in this expanded role,” General Manager Vlade Divac said in a press release. “His experience as a player and basketball executive combined with his ability to develop players and assess talent is a valuable asset to the Kings.”

His expanded role is namely in player development and Stojakovic will provide oversight of the G-League team, which relocated from Reno to Stockton last month. He will continue to report to General Manager and former Kings teammate Vlade Divac.

Originally selected by Sacramento with the 14th overall pick of the 1996 NBA Draft, Stojakovic joined the Kings two years later after finishing out his contract with Greece’s PAOK of the EuroLeague. He played in Sacramento from 1998-2006 before being shipped to Indiana in a deal for Ron Artest.

He’d play 13 seasons in the NBA, winning a championship with Dallas in 2011 before retiring in December.
