SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Kings (33-32) can't afford to falter in their final 17 regular season if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive. After proving to be the surprise of the NBA season, this young Kings team is still on the outside looking in on the postseason picture. As rookie Marvin Bagley III continues to recover from a knee sprain, how likely is it that he returns to action in a must-win game against the Boston Celtics? Here's what you need to know in Kings basketball this week as Sacramento looks to stay hot during an East Coast swing.

Marvin Bagley On The Mend:

Sacramento Kings rookie Marvin Bagley III could return to action as soon as Thursday when the team visits the Boston Celtics. Bagley has been ruled out for Monday's contest in Washington, D.C., but the team says he is day-to-day moving forward. The former Duke star has missed the last four games after sustaining a left knee sprain back on February 27 in an overtime loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Bagley practiced with the team at Georgetown University on Sunday during their second stop on a four-game trip.

Looking For Revenge:

The Sacramento Kings will be looking for payback at TD Garden when they face the Boston Celtics for the second time in eight days. Last Wednesday at Golden 1 Center, the Kings suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Celtics at the buzzer. Boston All-Star Kyrie Irving was out with a left thigh contusion during last week's matchup against the Kings but he returned to action three days later, scoring 30 points against the Lakers at Staples Center. While the Kings are looking to get back at Boston, the Washington Wizards, Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls will be looking to avenge their earlier losses to the Kings.

"Every Game Is A Playoff Game":

Every game is critical to Sacramento's playoff hopes as only 17 games remain in the regular season. Even with Saturday's win over the Knicks in New York, the Kings sit ninth in the Western Conference standings with four games separating them from the eighth and final playoff spot in the West. The Kings are on the outside looking at the Utah Jazz, L.A. Clippers, and San Antonio who are all neck-and-neck for the the sixth through eighth seeds. With the Spurs and Clippers riding winning streaks of four games or more, the Kings can't afford to falter down the stretch if they want to keep their postseason hopes alive. The Kings have won the regular season tiebreaker against the Spurs who they will face one more time before the regular season ends. Sacramento will have a chance to split their series against the Jazz when they travel to Utah on Friday, April 5.

The Sacramento Kings return to Golden 1 Center on Sunday, March 17, for a St. Patrick's Day matinee against the Chicago Bulls. Sunday's contest kicks off a four-game homestand at Golden 1 Center as the NBA regular season starts winding down.
