Source: Mini NBA Summer League is coming to Sacramento in July

An NBA source tells ABC10 that the league will be bringing a mini version of Summer League to the Capital City in the days leading up to Las Vegas Summer League tip-off in July.

You might have seen something pop up on your timeline this weekend about Sacramento hosting the NBA Summer League. An NBA source tells ABC10 that the league will be bringing a mini version of Summer League to the Capital City in the days leading up to Las Vegas Summer League tip-off in July.

That league source spoke to ABC10 on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter since the league had not yet made an official announcement.

The NBA Summer League is a week and a half of competition where fans get their first look at the NBA's top draft picks. The NBA has called Vegas its home for Summer League since 2004 with other Summer Leagues being held in Utah and Orlando in years past.

This year, for the first time ever, all 30 NBA teams will travel to Vegas for Summer League games. Last summer there was a record attendance for the games in Vegas where fans had a chance to see to see players like Kings rookie De'Aaron Fox and Los Angeles Lakers star Lonzo Ball in action.

The Kings made some noise around the league last summer when more than 10,000 fans filled the seats at Golden 1 Center for a Summer League watch party when the Kings played the Lakers in Las Vegas. A mini version of Summer League in Sacramento would be a great opportunity for many fans who can't make the trip to Vegas to see some of the most talented young players from around the league up close and personal.

According to a report by Basketball Insiders, the Lakers, the Golden State Warriors, and the Miami Heat would be joining the Kings to play in Sacramento before the Vegas Summer League tips off on July 6. Neither the Kings nor the NBA would comment on that report.

In February, the Kings submitted their first bid to host the NBA All-Star game in 2022 or 2023. Bringing some NBA teams to Sacramento for a short summer showcase could be a good testing ground for how the city responds to a bigger NBA event.

The details are still very fluid and this story will be updated as it develops.
