Yogi Ferrell agrees to two-year deal with Kings

The Kings made a free agency move on Friday by agreeing to a deal that would bring guard Yogi Ferrell to Sacramento hours after Ferrell backed out of a deal that could have kept him in Dallas.

Just days after the Sacramento Kings surprised fans by trading veteran guard and fan favorite Garrett Temple to the Memphis Grizzlies, the team made another big offseason move.

The Kings dove into the NBA's free agency market Friday morning, reportedly landing free agent guard Yogi Ferrell who agreed to a two-year deal worth $6.2 million. According to multiple reports, Ferrell agreed to the deal with the Kings just hours after backing out of his agreement with the Dallas Mavericks. On Thursday, the Mavericks and Ferrell agreed to a two-year deal worth $5.3 million.

Ferrell, 25, will be going into his third NBA season after averaging 10.6 points, 2.5 assists and three rebounds per game for the Mavericks last season. The University of Indiana standout went undrafted in 2016 but landed a two-year deal with Dallas in February 2017 after impressing the team while on his 10-day contract. Ferrell started 50 of the 118 games he played for the Mavs since January 2017.

Ferrell joins guards De'Aaron Fox and Frank Mason III as a member of a young Sacramento roster that is now maxed at 15 players. As the roster stands right now, there are only four Kings players with more than three years of NBA experience: Zach Randolph (17 years), Kosta Koufos (10 years), Iman Shumpert (seven years) and Ben McLemore (five years).
