CLEVELAND — To borrow a line from Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, fellow signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo must have been “feeling dangerous” after leading the San Francisco 49ers to their eighth straight victory to start the 2019 regular season.

After throwing for four touchdowns in a 28-25 road win over the Arizona Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona Thursday night, Garoppolo was interviewed by Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews, and the exchange ended memorably and awkwardly.

Andrews’ walk-off question was, “8-0, how does that feel?,” and Garoppolo smiled and said, “It feels great, baby.”

Andrews handled the comment in stride, laughing at first and quickly firing back with a “Happy Halloween right back at you. Thank you so much.”

The comments took social media by storm, and quickly, it became a trending topic.

Some took the comments in stride, focusing instead on the fact that Garoppolo completed 28 of his 37 attempts for 317 yards and four touchdowns in leading the 49ers to a three-point win over the upstart Cardinals on the road, San Francisco’s fifth victory away from home this season.

Others laughed it off as just an innocent comment.

Then, there were those who felt the quarterback crossed a line in using the word “baby” in response to answering a question from Andrews.

Whether or not Garoppolo stepped over a line with Andrews, he is having his best professional season and has the 49ers well out in front in the NFC West Division.

Garoppolo has completed 160 of his 226 attempts (70.8 percent) for 1,806 yards and 13 touchdowns against seven interceptions. Additionally, Garoppolo has thrown 27 20-yard passes and another two that went for 40 or more yards and been sacked just 12 times on the way to a 100.6 quarterback rating.

Also, Garoppolo has rushed for 32 yards, seven first downs and one touchdown on 28 carries this season, his third with the 49ers.
