Here's what you can do in Sacramento instead of watching Super Bowl 2020

Want to spend your Sunday away from the football frenzy? Make it a museum day, listen to local live music, and more!

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Who else is ready for the Super Bowl to just be over already? 

Whether football isn't your thing or your team tragically didn't make it this year, it's not like the world stops to watch Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2. There are some fun events going on in the Greater Sacramento area that are sure to get you away from the football craze. 

Take the kids and make it a museum day, listen to live music, or watch acrobats at work. However you want to spend your Sunday, we've got you covered!

Watch the Puppy Bowl

Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl

What: An awesome live-streamed event featuring adorable, adoptable pups.  

When: 12 p.m.

Make it a Museum Day

Sacramento Museum Week starts Sunday, Feb. 2 this year and will be in full swing until Saturday, Feb. 9.

There are many local museums participating in the 2020 Sacramento Museum Week. See a full list of museums to check out here.

In addition, some museums are having special activities planned for opening day. 

Crocker Art Museum 

What: Kids and Co. Gallery Adventure

When: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Price:

  • Free for members.
  • Free with admission for nonmembers.

What: Highlight Tours

When: 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m.

Price:

  • Free for members.
  • Free with admission for nonmembers.

Sacramento Children's Museum

What: Science Sundays

When: Activities happening all day

Price: Free with admission.

What: ExplorABILITY -free play-based program for children on the autism spectrum, ages 2 to 10. Safe, sensory equipment and materials, facilitated by Sacramento area therapists

When: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Listen to live music

Radical Face at Harlow's 

What: Live music and good drinks. You may know Radical Face best from his song "Welcome Home," an indie hit song featured in an episode of "The Returned" and in a Nikon commercial. 

When: Doors: 6 p.m. / Show: 7 p.m.

Go on a scavenger hunt in Downtown

Let's Roam Sacramento Scavenger Hunt 

What: This hunt will guide you through the cultural, historical, artistic, and zany Sacramento sights as you and your team contend for scavenger hunt glory. 

When: Any time

Where: 915 I Street, Sacramento, CA

Catch a show

Cirque du Soleil Amaluna Sacramento 

What: Watch Amaluna by Cirque du Soleil. It was created and directed by Diane Paulus and is loosely inspired by William Shakespeare's "The Tempest." 

When: 5 p.m

Where: Big Top - Raley Field 400 Ballpark Dr, West Sacramento, CA 

Price: Starting at $74 per ticket

The Trail to Oregon! 

What: A fun musical experience with audience participation encouraged. The characters' names are picked from suggestions shouted from the audience, and at the end the audience chooses which character dies (probably of dysentery). 

When: 2 p.m.

Where: DDSO Parkway Theater, 5051 47th Avenue, Sacramento, CA

Be a patron of the arts

The Art of Theater: From Hamlet to Hairspray

What: The Sacramento Fine Arts Center is launching a new “Art of” series. This is the first show launching in this series.

When: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Where: Sacramento Fine Arts Center, 5330 Gibbons Drive #B, Carmichael, CA

Price: Donation suggested.

Take an off-road training course designed for women

Garrahan Off-Road women-only training course

What: Back by popular demand, an off-road biking class strictly designed for women. Learn the fundamentals, practice technique, and gain stability, speed and balance in a supportive group.  

When: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area, 18600 Corral Hollow Road, Tracy, CA

Price: 

  • $175 entry 
  • $300 for bike and gear included

Go on a run

Super Sunday Run XI 

What: The 11th annual Super Sunday Run features a 5k race, a 10k race, the Future Stars’ 1k community run/walk, and Pee-Wee 40-Yard Dash.  

When: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Where: Starting near Hornet Stadium on College Town Drive and finishing at Hornet Stadium

Price:

  • $47 until Jan. 31

  • $55: Feb. 1 – Feb. 2

  • Future Stars’ 1K – Free until Jan. 31, then $1

  • Pee-Wee 40-Yard Dash – Free
