Here's what you need to know about Sacramento Republic FC's block party

The soccer team is expected to announce that they're joining Major League Soccer, becoming the league's 29th expansion team while building another downtown hub.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Republic Football Club has a major announcement in store for Monday, Oct. 21, and fans of the soccer team are invited to celebrate this "extraordinary day in Sacramento history" at the "Indomitable Block Party."

Sacramento is expected to be awarded the latest Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise, a source familiar with the expansion process told ABC10 News. MLS Commissioner Don Garber will be in attendance for the announcement along with Gov. Gavin Newsom and Mayor Darrell Steinberg, according to a press release from the MLS.

On Monday, fans can start the celebration early at Solomon's Delicatessen where the Sac Republic FC will present the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy to the MLS Cup winner. Fans are encouraged to wear old glory red and take photos with the cup. The event will run from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. at 730 K St, Sacramento.

If you're looking for the best way to get to the "Indomitable Block Party," catch a free ride with Sacramento Regional Transit. Light rail and bus rides will be free Monday, Oct. 21 from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. Riders must present this flyer when they board.   

The block party begins at 4 p.m. at 4th Street and Capitol Mall in Sacramento. The free event will feature family-friendly games, a beer garden, food trucks, prizes, giveaways and live entertainment. Fans will also be able to purchase commemorative merchandise. 

For people attending or just people passing through, keep in mind that set up for the big party is closing some roads around Capitol Mall into Monday evening.

Road closures are as follows:

  • Capitol Mall at 3rd Street and 5th Street
  • 4th Street at L Street to N Street
