Sparks sign Ross to multi-year extension

The Los Angeles Sparks have signed head coach Carol Ross to a multi-year contract extension after she led the team to back-to-back WNBA playoff appearances.

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Sparks have signed head coach Carol Ross to a multi-year contract extension after she led the team to back-to-back WNBA playoff appearances.

Terms of the deal, announced Thursday, were not disclosed.

Ross was hired in January 2012 and led the Sparks to consecutive 24-10 records in her first two seasons.

Sparks general manager Penny Toler called the 2012 WNBA Coach of the Year "a proven leader who knows what this team needs to win" and said bringing Ross back means the team is one step closer to winning a WNBA championship.

Ross said she was "excited to return and continue leading that drive to bring the WNBA trophy back to Los Angeles for the fans, organization and city."

This past season, the Sparks were knocked out of the playoffs by the Phoenix Mercury in the Western Conference semifinals.
