ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif. — A section of Interstate 580 was shut down overnight between Alameda and San Joaquin counties after a crash sparked a brushfire in the area.

The crash happened just before midnight on I-580 near Grant Line Road, between Livermore and Tracy.

Investigators say a vehicle was traveling on 580 when they lost control for an unknown reason, went down an embankment sparking the brushfire. The interstate was shut down for several hours as crews worked to douse the flames and clear the scene.

The roadway was reopened just after 5 a.m., but the delay caused traffic to be backed up for miles.

No word yet on possible injuries and investigators have not said what caused the crash.

Several drivers in the area snapped photos and video of the blaze.
