TRACY, Calif. — A big rig has caught on fire, spreading flames to a grassy area near Highway 132 and prompting a lane closure near Tracy, Calif on Wednesday morning.

Eastbound Highway 132 has one lane closed at Bird Road while crews work to put out the flames and clear the semi-truck. The area connects Interstate 5 to Interstate 580.

According to a CHP traffic report, the driver of the big rig was out of the truck, but appeared to be injured. It is unclear what caused the semi-truck to catch on fire or how long the lane on Highway 132 will be closed.

Until that lane is open, there could be traffic delays for travelers from Tracy heading into Modesto or commuters trying to make that switch from I-580 to I-5.

Drivers can avoid the area by heading up north toward Interstate 205 or taking S. Chrisman Road connecting to Durham Ferry Road.

The grass on fire could be an issue for fire crews due to the high temperatures set for Wednesday. One concern with heat waves in California is that there's more fuel for those fires along the way. Add on the already existing drought conditions and concerns only increase.
