Highway 50 reopened between Howe Avenue, Bradshaw Road after police activity causes 2 hour closure

Caltrans has given the all clear after a roughly two hour closure of Highway 50 that impacted traffic at Howe Avenue and westbound Bradshaw.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Update: 5:15 p.m.

After a closure shutdown a portion of Highway 50 for about 2 hours, Caltrans has given the all clear.

Police activity had shutdown a portion of Highway 50 that had Caltrans asking drivers to avoid trying to access the road between Howe Avenue and westbound at Bradshaw. 

Traffic is now open in both directions.

UPDATE: 4:15 p.m.

Police activity continues to impact the Highway 50 as the eastbound closure extended to Howe Avenue. 

According to Caltrans all traffic is being diverted off Highway 50. There is still now ETO. 

Caltrans is asking people to avoid trying to access Highway 50 between Howe and westbound at Bradshaw as a unified command of CHP and Sacramento police attempt to resolve the situation.

Police activity at US 50 and Watt has closed the highway in both directions.

According to a spokesperson with the East Sacramento CHP office, a pursuit had started on I-80 at Northgate and ended when the vehicle stopped at Highway 50 and Watt. 

CHP authorities say a suspect was inside the vehicle and brandishing a firearm at his head.

Caltrans District 3 also noted that traffic heading westbound at Bradshaw and eastbound at Watt Avenue was being held due to police activity.

Caltrans is asking people to avoid the Highway 50. There is no ETO.
