PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — Update: 6:00 p.m.
Caltrans has chain controls in effect for all vehicles on I-80 east of Baxter in Placer County to the Donner Lake interchange in Nevada County.
This applies to all vehicles except those with 4-wheel drive and snow tires on all wheels.

Winter weather and traffic continue to take their toll on I-80 as a portion of the roadway has now been closed to truck traffic.
Caltrans has I-80 closed to trucks from Applegate in Placer County to the Nevada State line.
CHP-Truckee said the high level of traffic and the anticipation of a storm Saturday afternoon led to Caltrans holding truck traffic at the Nevada State line until Monday.
On Friday night, I-80 traffic was at a standstill for hours due to spin-outs on the roadway. The roadway was cleared early this morning.
The National Weather Service currently has currently has a winter storm warning for parts of Northern California and says traveling is highly discouraged during the storm.
