Oil tanker truck goes over cliff, spills jet fuel along I-80

This is being described as a "large scale spill" with multiple agencies contacted.

DUTCH FLAT, Calif. — Update 8:30 a.m.

A representative with the Placer County Water Agency said the water intake was temporarily shutdown in the area of the crash. It was determined that the spill did not enter their water supply.

Update 8:30 a.m.

According to Chris Nave, Public Information Officer for the CHP-Truckee, the big rig was carrying 7,000 gallons of jet fuel and dropped roughly 300 feet into a ravine.

Hazmat crews have also been called to the scene to assist with clean-up along I-80. It is unclear how much jet fuel has spilled, at this time.

Original story

An oil tanker carrying jet fuel went over a cliff in Northern California.

According to CHP, the crash happened just before 6 a.m. along eastbound I-80, just east of Dutch Flat, when a semi-truck went off a cliff. One person is dead, but it is unclear at the moment if that person is the driver of the truck.

This is being described as a "large scale spill." CHP has contacted multiple agencies about the spill, include California Fish and Wildlife Department, Cal OES, PG&E, and the Placer County Water District as a precaution.
