Republic FC to MLS party shuts down roads in downtown Sacramento

Sacramento has tried for years to join MLS, and those efforts are expected to culminate on Monday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Some roads in downtown Sacramento are closed as crews set up for Sacramento Republic FC's "Indomitable Block Party" on Monday.

The soccer team touted the event as a party that people don't want to miss. 

The party coincides with Major League Soccer coming to Sacramento on Monday for a major soccer announcement. It's expected that Sacramento will be awarded a MLS franchise.

The closure for the block party will remain in place until Monday evening, when the block party ends.

Road closures are as follows:

  • Capitol Mall at 3rd Street and 5th Street
  • 4th Street at L Street to N Street

Fans are encourage to ride the bus or light rail for free. Simply print or take a screen shot of the free ride flyer on your smartphone and ride bus and light rail for free to the Fan Fest being held on Capitol Mall and 5th Street.
