SACRAMENTO, Calif — Several groups including Party for Socialism and Liberation - Sacramento and the Gender Health Center, put out a call for people to gather Thursday in Cesar Chavez Plaza.
The Facebook event description said the groups want to bring an end to the terror brought by police to marginalized communities like the queer and transgender people in Sacramento.
"Between the first day of 2019 and June 2020, over 40 trans people have been killed in both solved and unsolved homicide cases in at least 34 cities, 15 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico," the event page said. "Of the 40 trans people murdered in the past year and half, over half were Black and nearly three-fourths were women."
Because of the expected size of the gathering, the Downtown Partnership said beginning at 4 p.m. traffic delays may occur in downtown near the demonstration.
Commuters should consider alternate routes due to expected temporary road closures occurring throughout the weekend the DSP said.
