Another heavy snowfall brings new challenges to residents in Pollock Pines

POLLOCK PINES, Calif. — Several inches of snow infiltrated the Pollock Pines area over the weekend. The snow caused all kinds of problems for residents, stores and motorists traveling through the area.

"Ten feet of snow," said resident Rick Easley. "The power was out, phones were out, everything was out."

Easley was one of the hundreds of Pollock Pines residents whose lives were affected by the heavy snowfall. They have been dealing with power outages since approximately 7 a.m. on Monday.

Even those from Placerville felt the wrath of the snowstorm.

"We're not really sure when the power goes on or off. A lot of people are experiencing constant power outage. PG&E is working overtime. A lot of people are hitting the store to get some ice...or putting their stuff out in the snow to preserve their refrigerated stuff," Placerville resident Shannon Galyardt told ABC10.

But not all people were affected negatively by the storm. Some businesses thrived from all the people who were stuck in Pollock Pines.

"Our business has been great. We've kept our store open to 2 a.m. so everybody can use the bathroom," said Tonya Capps, a gas station clerk. "We've sold through most of our chips. When I came in this morning, our chip shelves were almost empty. The snow like this brings in a lot of business to our gas station."

Others try to look at this unfortunate situation with a spin of positivity.

"I think, with things like this, I try to take something positive out of everything. And it's that...this is a good way for people to help other people," Easley said.
