3.6 magnitude earthquake hits Bay Area near San Jose

ALUM ROCK, Calif. — A 3.6 magnitude earthquake hit the Bay Area on Thursday morning, with an epicenter roughly 5.4 miles from the East San Jose town Alum Rock. 

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake map, the quake happened at roughly 5:15 a.m. on June 3. Another 1.7 magnitude earthquake hit the same area just a few minutes later. 

The epicenter was 9 miles from San Jose, and 84.5 miles from Sacramento.

The map indicates that the temblor radiated out as far east as Tracy and Modesto, and extended south into Salinas and Soledad. 

The Alum Rock area has experienced several earthquakes in the last few weeks, but these most recent tremors are the largest in that area in some time.
