Magnitude 5.2 earthquake rattles Northern California near Petrolia

Some people reported feeling the quake through the Bay Area and the upper parts of the Central Valley.

CALIFORNIA, USA — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake hit Northern California Wednesday afternoon.

The quake happened around 3:08 p.m. near the northern California coast near Petrolia, an unincorporated community in Humboldt County, and roughly 200 miles from Sacramento, according to U.S. Geological Survey [USGS].

On the USGS site, people reported feeling the earthquake through the upper parts of the Bay Area and upper parts of the Central Valley.
