Heatwave coming to Northern California this weekend (Aug. 14-16)

After some average highs in the low 90s on Tuesday, an area of high pressure will build into the weekend and increase temperatures dramatically.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The middle of August is looking hot again for this upcoming weekend, August 14-16.

After some average highs in the low 90s on Tuesday, an area of high pressure will build into the weekend and increase temperatures dramatically. Friday will see many valley locations top 100 degrees which is well above normal but not quite in record-breaking territory.

The heat will continue to increase for Saturday and Sunday with highs near 104 degrees or hotter. The Sacramento temperature record for the Executive Airport location is 105 for Saturday and 106 for Sunday.

The morning lows will also be very warm and close to 70 degrees, almost 10 degrees warmer than average. Valley locations like Modesto could even see temperatures in the mid-70s. This means there will not be very much overnight relief by the Delta Breeze or other types of cooling wind.

Many locations could move into the 90-degree range by noon. The higher temperatures will also have an increased fire risk and likely poor air quality.

The mountain locations will be cooler but still relatively warm in the 80s. The Sierra will also see isolated thunderstorms this weekend with rain, gusty winds, and lightning potential.

The 100-degree heat will last into next week.
