Two rounds of Sierra snow are incoming.

The first round will last from now until Wednesday. The second round takes place Thursday — Saturday

The first storm is moving in and it’s bringing rain to the Sierra. The snow elevation is starting off high at 8000 feet. Colder air will move in later today, lowering snow levels to 6000 feet by this afternoon.

A Winter Storm Warning will start at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, lasts until 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 14.

Tuesday’s Snow levels:

  • Morning: 8000’
  • Afternoon: 6000’
  • Evening: 5000’
  • Overnight: 4500’

Wednesday’s Snow levels:

  • 4000-4500’

Estimated Snow totals:

  • Lake Level: 8-14”
  • Above 7000’: 10-20”
  • Isolated spots: Up to 3’

Expect snow covered roads, delays and difficult driving across the west slope of the Sierra. Plan on chain controls with the possibility of limited visibility. Travel across the Sierra is not recommended during this time.

There could also be damage to trees and power lines.
