March 14 we celebrate National Pi Day recognizing the number we all learn in elementary school 3.14. It is also an opportunity to celebrate numbers and math and highlight STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) in schools.
Pi is the measure of the ratio of a circle circumference to its diameter. Although it starts with 3.14, it goes on…and on for nearly 10 trillion digits!
The number has some real practical uses in everyday life. In aviation, it’s used to calculate flight time and fuel usage. Airplane engineers also use it to design planes. Biochemists use the number to understand DNA. And it’s used for our GPS systems to calculate locations.
Pi is a constant number. So for every circle, Pi is the same.
If all this talk about Pi has you thinking about pie, we have you covered. Here’s a link to the special deals to eat some savory or sweet pie.
