Northern California Storm: I-80 reopens with no chain restrictions

Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in 13 counties to help support the recovery and response from the winter storms.

CALIFORNIA, USA — Weather in Northern California continues to impact some areas as thousands remain without power in the Sierra.

Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in 13 counties to help support the recovery and response from the winter storms.

The emergency declaration applies to Amador, Kern, Los Angeles, Madera, Mariposa, Mono, Nevada, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Sierra, Sonoma and Tulare counties.

Power Outages

Thousands of customers are without power in several counties in Northern California including Nevada, Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne Mariposa and Madera counties.

Chain Controls

Interstate 80

  • Fully reopen with no chain restrictions but has heavy traffic due to back-up, according to CHP Truckee.

Highway 50

  • A High Wind advisory is in effect from the Yolo/Sacramento County line to the Sacramento/El Dorado County line
