Our longest stretch of hot weather is on the way

The numbers may not be as extreme as last week, but this heat will stick around longer making it just as dangerous.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — This summer we've had some pretty hot weather.  Here's a look of some of the hottest temperatures we've had so far this summer.

JUNE

June 10  - 100°
June 11  - 103°
June 12  - 102°  

JULY

July  24  -  99°
July  25  -  99°
July  26  -  94°
July  27  - 102°
July 28  -  104°

AUGUST

August 13 -  99°
August 14 -  103°
August 15 -  105°
August 16  -  102°

This week we will enter the longest stretch of hot temperatures we've seen this summer. 

10 DAY FORECAST:

Wednesday - 96°
Thursday - 100°
Friday - 98°
Saturday - 97°
Sunday - 98°
Monday - 98°
Tuesday - 98°
Wednesday - 98°
Thursday - 99°
Friday - 98°
Saturday - 98°

Long-range weather models are showing temperatures in the upper 90's for a series of days.  In fact, the CPC, Climate Prediction Center, is forecasting above-average temperatures for the Central Valley for the next 8-14 days.

That being said, limit your time outside during the heat of the day and stay hydrated.  These may not be triple-digits, but temperatures this hot for a number of consecutive days can be just as dangerous.  

Here are a few tips when it comes to beating the heat. 

  • Wear Sunscreen - Sunglasses & A Hat
  • Drink Water - Avoid Alcohol
  • Light Clothing - Cool Off When Possible

The break from the heat is over. A big change in our weather pattern will result in a prolonged stretch of above-average high temperatures.

This is a typical heat wave pattern. A ridge of high pressure over the Rockies and another one off the coast. This will keep the Delta Breeze from delivering the cooling Pacific air and quickly warm the air close to the surface.

This heat event won't bring the extreme numbers like last week, but the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys will see afternoon highs close to 100 degrees for almost ten days.

Average high for the valley this time of year is in the low 90s. The upcoming weather pattern will give us highs about 5-10 degrees above average.
