Rain and snow coming to Northern California this weekend

The next two weekends could see rain and snow in the Valley and lower levels of the Foothills.

SACRAMENTO, Calif — December has been warm and dry for most of Northern California and because of that, drought conditions have degraded with a lack of significant rain or snow for the first third of the month.

However, starting Friday, the greater Sacramento area will experience changes more typical of December weather. The high temperatures for Valley locations will move into the mid 50s, which is normal for this time of year and away from the record breaking temperatures we've seen recently

Late Friday night, winds will pick up and rain will move into Valley locations close to midnight and early Saturday morning. Most Valley locations will pickup around 0.10-25” of rain between midnight and noon on Saturday. The highs will remain in the 50s.

The Sierra will likely get close to 2-4” of snow in the same time period down to 6,500 fee. The storm breaks up late in the day on Saturday for higher and lower elevations.

Sunday, a new storm rapidly moves into Northern California with higher snow levels initially around 7,600 feet then dropping to 4,500 overnight into Monday. Some light rain will fall, but up to 3-6” could fall over the passes by Monday morning. Sunday, the storm will bring another round of rain to the Valley with on and off showers and 0.10-0.25” of rain with locally higher amounts.

Next week looks quiet with more 50s for highs and more rain and snow by the end of the week.
