1 dead after fatal collision on Northgate Boulevard, Tandy Drive

The vehicle pursuit traveled through Interstate 5, Interstate 80, and multiple surface streets.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — One woman is dead after a fatal vehicle collision at North Gate Boulevard and Tandy Drive.

While in the area of Richard Boulevard and Interstate 5 on April 6 around 5:03 a.m., a Sacramento police officer in a marked vehicle saw a driver speeding westbound on Richards Boulevard and making erratic lane changes.

The officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle for an enforcement stop, however, the driver would approach the freeway and head northbound on Interstate 5. After activating the police vehicle's emergency lights and sirens, the officer engaged in a pursuit of the feeling vehicle.

At one point during the pursuit, the officer was able to get close enough to read the vehicle's license plate for a computer check, which revealed it to be a reported stolen Toyota Camry.

Additional officers from Sacramento Police Department, noted as being in full uniform and driving marked vehicles, joined the pursuit to assist as it traveled through Interstate 5, Interstate 80, and multiple surface streets.

While the fleeing vehicle traveled northbound on Northgate Boulevard over the I-80 overpass around 5:13 a.m., officers lost sight of the vehicle, but they were able to regain sight of it on the side of the roadway near Northgate Boulevard and Tandy Drive.

The vehicle had collided into a pole and had significant damage, according to authorities.

Announcements made to any potential occupants in the vehicle garnered no response, and officers approached the vehicle. They saw a female adult in the driver's seat.

She was unresponsive and trapped inside the vehicle. Responding fire personnel extricated the female from the vehicle and pronounced her deceased on scene. 

During the preliminary investigation, officers determined the vehicle had traveled off the roadway and collided into a light pole. The Major Collision Investigation Unit also responded to the scene to take over the traffic investigation, and detectives checked for additional evidence and witnesses. 

The investigation is still active, and the identity of the driver will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office after next of kin is notified.
