Man wanted in South Sacramento homicide captured in Tijuana

Tijuana Police arrested 30-year-old Joshua Thomas Vaden on Sunday and he was extradited back to the US on Monday, according to the sheriff’s office.

A man wanted in connection to a South Sacramento homicide from April was arrested in Tijuana, Mexico over the weekend.

Police in Tijuana arrested 30-year-old Joshua Thomas Vaden on Sunday and he was extradited back to the United States on Monday, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Vaden was wanted for the killing of 49-year-old Damien Michael.

A family member found Michael’s body on Sunday, April 14, inside a home in the 7000 block of Peevey Court in South Sacramento, sheriff's officials say. During the investigating, officials determined Michael was the victim of a violent assault.

On April 30, investigators identified Vaden as a suspect in the case and issued a warrant for his arrest. The FBI got information May 8 that Vaden was making a run for the border. Investigators did not say how Vaden was able to make it into Mexico.

Michael’s vehicle, a gray 2017 Ford Fiesta with Illinois license plate number AM73381, is still missing.

Detectives are still trying to identify a person of interest captured on a home surveillance camera. So far, investigators have not said what that person’s connection to this case may be.
