1 teen dead, another hospitalized in downtown Stockton shooting

The shooting was reported in the area of North Center Street and East Lindsay Street

STOCKTON, Calif — One teenager is dead and another is in the hospital after a shooting in Stockton.

Officer David Scott, Stockton police spokesperson, said the shooting was reported in the area of North Center Street and Channel Street around 4:30 p.m.

Two victims were found with gunshot wounds, one described as a 15-year-old and another as a 16-year-old.  One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Police couldn't clarify which teenager was killed and which was hospitalized.

"As of right now, we can't clarify which victim is the one that is pronounced deceased or the other one that was transported, but both victims were a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old," said Scott.

No suspect information or motive is available at this time.

"The timing of it, as well as the area, is something that's very concerning to us, especially in the heart of downtown... It's very important that our detectives, they're going to be working diligently to figure out what exactly transpired so we can get some answers on that," said Scott.

Police have closed the roadway on Center Street from Miner south to Weber for the investigation. El Dorado north from Weber to Miner was temporarily closed but it has since reopened.
