Kindergarten teacher named Esquire IMAX/ABC10 Teacher of the Year

The newest Esquire/IMAX ABC10 Teacher of the Year was recognized the night of Wednesday, June 8th. Beatriz Oropeza, a kindergarten teacher from Prairie Elementary School in Elk Grove, received the year-long title in front of more than 350 cheering attendees at the Esquire IMAX Theater located in downtown Sacramento.

The newest Esquire/IMAX ABC10 Teacher of the Year was recognized the night of Wednesday, June 8th. Beatriz Oropeza, a kindergarten teacher from Prairie Elementary School in Elk Grove, received the year-long title in front of more than 350 cheering attendees at the Esquire IMAX Theater located in downtown Sacramento.

Oropeza was one of 12 ABC10 Teachers of the Month nominated for the honor. She was awarded a $5,000 check from of Schools Financial Credit Union along with an additional prize package courtesy of other generous sponsors including Papa Murphy’s and Sizzler.

Since 2004, the Sacramento State College of Education, Schools Financial Credit Union and other key sponsors have partnered with ABC10 in bringing the Teacher of the Month program to life. Each month, faculty in the College of Education choose an outstanding local educator as the Teacher of the Month. At the end of each academic year, the College of Education faculty, out of the 12 deserving winners from the past year, are tasked with selecting one teacher as the Esquire IMAX/ABC10 Teacher of the Year.
