Lockdown lifted at San Juan High in Citrus Heights | Update

According to a tweet from the Citrus Heights Police Department, the lockdown is out of caution and all students are considered safe.

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif — Update 10/16 at 6:49 p.m. 

Citrus Heights Police Department said two shots were fired at a residence on the 6300 block of Mariposa around noon Wednesday. Police said there is no evidence that the shots were directed at San Juan High School. 

Witnesses said the suspects fled on foot towards San Juan High School. The three suspects were described as juveniles. 

San Juan High School was on lockdown at 12:04 p.m. Students were out of their classrooms and on their lunch break at the time of the shooting. 

The Citrus Heights Police Department said officers searched every building, room, bathroom and storage closet for suspects and evidence. Police did not find any of the suspects.  

The police department is asking for anyone who has information about this case to contact the tip line at (916)727-5524. 

Update 10/16 at 3:42 p.m. 

The Lockdown at San Juan High School in Citrus Heights has been lifted, according to police. 

San Juan Unified School District released a statement saying parents can pick-up their children from San Juan High School. School officials said they expect heavy traffic near campus. 

Students who receive bus services through the district will be transported home as usual, according to the release. 

All after-school programs and activities at San Juan High School have been canceled for Wednesday, Oct. 16. 

East and westbound lanes for Greenback Lane have also re-opened.

A shooting near San Juan High in Citrus Heights has forced police to place the school on lockdown.

According to a tweet from the Citrus Heights Police Department, the lockdown is out of caution and all students are considered safe. 

The shooting happened along the 6300 block of Mariposa Avenue, at a home near the high school. No victims have been reported. East and westbound lanes of Greenback Lane have also been shut down due to the nature of the incident. 

Police are asking parents not to go to the school and if they would like to receive more information on the situation, they should head to the Citrus Heights Community Center, 6300 Fountain Square Dr.
