'Do not stop what you have started': Mayor Steinberg at March For Our Lives rally

Sacramento's own Mayor Darrel Steinberg who talked about this generation of kids, the second amendment and more.

Across the United States, there were marches and rallies being held for the 'March For Our Lives' movement.

The national movement is focused on gun violence awareness, following the aftermath of the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, which claimed 17 lives.

On Saturday, many showed up at the State Capitol in downtown Sacramento to hear different speakers address the gun violence issues. One of those was Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg who talked about this generation of kids, the second amendment and more.

Here's some of what the Mayor had to say to the crowd [full speech below]:

I urge you all to think boldly. Why isn’t it time to consider a national movement to change the second amendment. Start with no more assault weapons whose only purpose is to kill and maim more than one person at a time.

Young people this is your civil rights moment. This is your Vietnam moment. Just because its always been the way it is, doesn’t mean it must be the way it has to be.

If we can’t change the horrific gun culture by our generation, change it by your generation.

It starts today, in memory of the 17 lost at Stoneman Douglas High and all of the other victims of gun violence.

Do not stop what you have started today. Show Sacramento and the world that strength, power and change lies in peaceful, non-violence resistance and advocacy. Somebody said ‘We are enough’, you are more than enough. You have the power now let’s use it.
