Former Elk Grove HS coach arrested for allegedly touching teenage girl, sheriff says

It is unclear if the teenage girl was a student at Elk Grove High School or in the Elk Grove Unified School District.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — A former Elk Grove cross country coach was arrested in February after he allegedly inappropriately touched a teenage girl, Sacramento sheriff's officials confirmed Thursday.

Thomas Rossow, 67, worked for Elk Grove High School for more than 30 years and was the school's cross country head coach at the time the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office began investigating him, according to Sgt. Tess Deterding.

Rossow was arrested Feb. 19 on a misdemeanor charge of inappropriately touching a teenage girl. The sheriff's office confirmed the details of his arrest on Thursday in a press release, adding that he has since been released.

District spokesperson Xanthi Pinkerton would not confirm if the teenage girl was a student at Elk Grove High School or in the Elk Grove Unified School District. Pinkerton said that Rossow was fired from the school on Oct. 16, 2019.

Pinkerton would not say if the former coach was fired because of the alleged touching of a teenage girl.

"We are working closely with Sac County Sheriff’s Department on this investigation," Pinkerton said in a statement to ABC10. "This is all the information that we have at this time."

If you have any information regarding this investigation or about Rossow's employment at the high school, call the sheriff's office at (916) 875-5070.
