Man poses as Manteca city worker on ADA visit

A Manteca tanning salon has been visited twice in the past several weeks by a man claiming to be a city worker on assignment to check the business for disability access issues.

City officials said the man isn't an employee and police are trying to locate him since it's unlawful to portray a city employee to gain access to a business.

Tasha Hammer owns A Perfect Tan and recalled the two visits.

"He started taking measurements of my front counter and took photos of the bathroom,' said Hammer. She said when an employee started taking pictures of him on the most recent visit, he quickly left.

Hammer doesn't understand why he claimed to be a city worker but does feel he's part of a research effort to determine if the business can be sued for not meeting disability access requirements.

"I think he's part of the lawyers going around, suing kind, hard working business people," she said.
