Preparations have been made for the funeral and funeral procession of Corporal Ronil Singh, Newman Police Department's first ever line-of-duty death.
Singh will be taken to his final resting place at Lakewood Memorial Park on January 5.

Who is Corporal Ronil Singh?
Singh was a police corporal with the Newman Police Department since 2011. He previously worked with Turlock Police Department as a cadet and the Merced County Sheriff's Department.
According to family, Singh emigrated from Fiji to the United States to pursue his "dream job" of becoming an officer. He eventually became one of only 13 officers that served the Newman community.
On December 26, Singh was killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop. Law enforcement agencies around California aided in a multi-county manhunt for his suspected killer.
Colleagues remember him as a dedicated officer with a passion for fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife and a five-month old son.
When is it?
The memorial service for Cpl. Ronil Singh is January 5 at 10 a.m.
His procession is expected to begin at 11:30 a.m.
Where is it?
The memorial service will be held at the CrossPoint Community Church located at 1301 12th St. in Modesto.
What is the procession route?
Beginning around 11:30 a.m., the funeral will follow this route:
- Start at CrossPoint Church on Needham Avenue and 11 street
- 11th Street to D Street
- D Street to Yosemite Blvd
- Yosemite Boulevard to Santa Fe Avenue
- Santa Fe Avenue to Lakewood Memorial Park
Traffic impacts?
Due to the memorial service road closures will be taking effect in the Modesto area.
Needham Avenue will be closed from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. between College and McHenry avenues. For several side streets that are south of Needham, through traffic will not be allowed. Parking on some streets may also see closures.
Parking will be limited and it's recommended that those interested in attending the service arrive early.
