San Francisco man identified in deadly drowning at Woodward Reservoir in Stanislaus County

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to reports of a swimmer struggling and distressed around 1:50 p.m. Sunday.

OAKDALE, Calif. — A man who died after drowning at Woodward Reservoir, not far from Oakdale, was identified Monday.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to reports of a swimmer struggling and distressed around 1:50 p.m. Sunday. The man, later identified as  24-year-old San Francisco resident Oscar Rafael Coello-Flores, was swimming near Mountain View Point.

The sheriff's dive team searched the area around Mountain View Point. Officials said no other swimmers were involved and the man was swimming from shore to shore.

He drowned about 45 feet from the shore of Moutain View Point, according to the sheriff's office.

The man's death is under investigation.
