Officials believe he was recently treated at a hospital because he was wearing clothes worn by patients. The man hasn't been identified yet.

RIVERBANK, Calif. — Deputies are trying to identify the body of a man found in the Stanislaus River late Sunday night.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office responded to the river along the 3900 block of Topeka Street in Riverbank after a person was found in the water around 11:30 p.m. Officials said the body was reported by transients who said they saw a drowning victim.

The sheriff's office responded to get the remains and investigate the cause and manner of death.

Deputies described the body as a middle-aged Black man, but they haven't been able to identify him yet. Officials believe he was recently treated at a hospital because he was wearing clothes worn by patients.
