Swimmer found dead at Woodward Reservoir in Stanislaus County

A spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said the swimmer was reportedly seen struggling and in distress.

OAKDALE, Calif. — A swimmer last seen struggling and in distress was found dead at Woodward Reservoir, not far from Oakdale.

A spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said the operation began as a water rescue for a 27-year-old man. It was reported just before 2 p.m. 

The sheriff's dive team searched the area around Mountain View Point. Officials said there were no other swimmers involved and that the man was swimming from shore to shore.

The swimmer was described as a Hispanic man. He was ultimately found dead.
