MERCED COUNTY, Calif. — Two drivers have been hospitalized after their motorcycles collided on State Road 49 Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

CHP says the crash happened just before 2:15 p.m. when Selina Granados, 37, was riding her 2019 Honda motorcycle northbound on State Road 49. Granados approached a curve in the roadway at around 30-35 miles per hour at the same time as John Canavan, 59, who was riding his 2018 BMW motorcycle southbound.

According to a press release from CHP, Granados' bike drifted over the double yellow line, directly in front of Canavan's motorcycle. The two bikes collided, causing both drivers to be thrown from their bikes. Both landed on the roadway.

Both drivers suffered serious injuries. Granados was flown to Memorial Medical Center for treatment. Canavan was flown to Doctors Medical Center.

Both Granados and Canavan were wearing helmets when their bikes collided.

CHP does not believe drugs or alcohol to be a factor in this collision.
