Artistic electrical boxes all the buzz in downtown Sacramento

The project was designed to clean up the area while promoting some of Sacramento's great artists.

SACRAMENTO - In an effort to infuse a little culture and inspiration into downtown Sacramento, the Capitol Area Development Authority (CADA) and the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission (SMAC) in conjunction with 21 local artists have turned a collection of electrical boxes into works of art.

Once complete, the "Capitol Box Art Project" will transform 31 dull, gray City of Sacramento electrical boxes into colorful works of art throughout the Capitol Park neighborhood. Each of the works are replicas recreated in a high-gloss wrap around the entire box. In addition to covering up graffiti and creating a corner-to-corner urban gallery, the project was designed to promote the city's local art scene and some of its amazing artists, according to the Capitol Box Art website.

Twenty nine of the boxes were completed as of Friday with two blank canvases awaiting transformation once construction in their area is complete.

Funding for the project was provided by CADA

Following is a brochure with a map to each of the boxes and information on all the artists who contributed or will contribute to the project:
