Palisades Tahoe avalanche survivor thanks skier for miraculous rescue

Avalanche survivor Janet He said she almost slid off a cliff Wednesday at a Palisades Tahoe ski resort before a stranger saved her.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — One Palisades Tahoe skier is thanking a stranger for pulling her out of a deadly avalanche Wednesday after she said she slid more than 200 feet.

In an interview with ABC News, Northern California resident Janet He said she was skiing down what was supposed to be an easy route when she felt the ground below her getting narrow.

"I saw some snow coming down, which is normal in certain circumstances, but then I realized more than usual was coming down," He said. "At that second, it was already too late. I remember the sky keep roaring and roaring."

As the avalanche came down, He said she saw the edge of a cliff right in front of her when she stopped sliding. She said the mask over her face helped give her room to breathe as she laid buried face-first in snow.

"Then I heard somebody say 'Don't worry I got you,' and then a guy came down to me and it was definitely like the best voice I heard in my life," He said. "The guy saved me."

After coming out of the snow, she found her husband and took a picture with the man who saved her.

"I saw a lot of, you know, ski patrol, resource staff and many stranger volunteers came to help," He said. "A lot of people came by and asked me if I was OK and gave me lots of hugs. I definitely feel very warm."
