DAVIS, Calif. — After 47 years serving Davis residents and UC Davis students and alums, the Davis Graduate is closing its doors.
The news came as a shock to many, including the staff at the beloved bar.
"I've been working here for six years. Man, how I'm going to miss this place. What I do like about this place is the people here," said Felix Ozuna, a supervisor at The Grad.
The owner of the bar, Charlie Swanson, posted an update on his Facebook where hundreds of people have been sharing their memories and well wishes for a place they hold so dear.
"Thanks to all and I mean all of the amazing people that made a simple bar and grill special. So many life long friendships and connections. Since 1972 we have done our best to be a reflection of our community," Swanson posted.
The bar and restaurant has been a staple in the community for almost 50 years. Students called it their local watering hole and described it as a relaxing, fun environment with great events to look forward to each week.
The bar will close on June 30. There will be a big celebration on June 29, according to staff.
The Davis Enterprise has reported redevelopment plans for University Mall, where The Davis Graduate stands.
