Man dies, woman arrested on suspicion of DUI after 2 crashes on Hwy. 70 in Yuba County

A man died in a crash, resulting in both southbound lanes of Highway 70 being blocked by his Nissan. CHP says a woman then crashed into the crashed Nissan.

YUBA COUNTY, Calif. — A man died in a Yuba County crash on Highway 70 and a woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI in a separate crash early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP says a 55-year-old man from Olivehurst was driving his Nissan sedan south on Highway 70 near Plumas Lake around 1:20 a.m. when he veered off the road near the Feather River Boulevard exit. The Nissan hit multiple trees and rolled back onto the roadway to block both southbound lanes of 70.

A good Samaritan stopped and flagged down a passing ambulance. The Nissan driver was pronounced dead at the scene from the crash, according to CHP.

At the same time, 20-year-old Shelby Little of Vacaville drove an Audi into the crashed Nissan, according to officials. No one on the scene was injured and it's unclear what, if any, injuries Little left with.

CHP officers on scene suspected Little of driving under the influence, resulting in her arrest and booking into the Yuba County Jail.

Both crashes are now under investigation and the man killed in the first crash will be identified by a coroner, CHP says.

No other information is available at this time.
